waivers.tattoo vs Tattoo Studio Pro: what a free consent form costs you
Tattoo Studio Pro gives away a consent form app, and it is genuinely free. Their page says so without an asterisk: "No usage limits, no hidden fees, no upgrade pressure." If your only question is what a signed form costs in dollars, their free app answers it and this post is short.
The question worth a minute is a different one. Free forms are the front door of a studio suite, and the suite is priced per person. So the real comparison is what happens at your counter, and what you pay the day you want more than a signed form saved to a folder. The prices below are from their pages on 2026-09-10.
The suite is priced by how many people work there
Every plan carries every feature. What you buy is seats.
| Tattoo Studio Pro plan | A month | A year | Active team members |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo | $29 | $239 | 1 |
| Crew | $69 | $579 | Up to 5 |
| Tribe | $119 | $999 | Up to 10 |
| Clan | $179 | $1,499 | Up to 15 |
| Guild | $239 | $1,999 | Up to 20 |
| Legion | $299 | $2,499 | Up to 25 |
Their pricing page is fair about who counts: "Managers and Health Officials are free and never count." A new shop gets 6 months free, and they will move your client data over for nothing.
Ours does not count people at all. $50 a year per shop, or $5 a month, unlimited artists and unlimited signed waivers. Bring on a second artist, take a guest for a week, work a convention: same number. A 5-chair shop pays $579 a year there and $50 here.
That is the price story. The counter story is the one that decides it.
Free means the client signs on your device
Their free app is a standalone consent form that saves each signed form for you to file, and it works the way their page describes: hand the client a tablet or phone and they sign in the chair. That is a real answer to paper, and it is the same answer TRF and most tablet apps give.
It also means the tablet is part of the job. It has to be charged, unlocked, wiped between clients, and in the room. One tablet takes one client at a time, so a Saturday with 3 walk-ins is a queue at the desk. When the tablet is at a station, the client at the counter waits.
Ours does not pass anything across the counter. A QR code sits by the register, the client scans it with the phone already in their hand, and the form opens at your own address. 3 people can fill it in at once, standing anywhere, while you set up. Nothing to charge, nothing to install, nothing to hand over. The signed waiver reaches your inbox before they are out of the chair, and the client is on your list.
The form knows what state you are in
This is where a free generic form and a paid generic form come out the same, and it is the gap worth the most to a shop.
A consent form is not one document. Every state writes its own rules about what has to be on it, what you have to ask, and how long it stays in the file. We read all 51 sets and wrote them into the form, so the questions change with your address. A shop in Oregon gets the questions Oregon's rule reaches for; a shop in Florida gets Florida's. Nobody sets that up and nobody maintains it when a rule moves.
The form is in Spanish when the client wants it, it suggests the client's address as they type, it takes the ID photo, and it prints the consent in the language the client actually read.
This is a plain-language summary, not legal advice. Your local health department has the final word. Ask them, and bring your records.
A form, or a suite
A studio suite is a different purchase: booking, deposits, a point of sale, payroll, priced per artist. We do not make one. What we make is the consent form done properly, a client list that builds itself, and a record that reads clean when an inspector asks, for one price a shop can predict a year out. Free forms cost you the tablet hand-off and a form that does not know your state. The suite costs you per person for a lot you will not open.
Put a code on the counter and try it on a real Saturday. The first waivers are free and we ask for a card once you have seen it work. Start your shop.
